The short version. ConvoTrace records audio in a rolling buffer that lives entirely on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded unless you explicitly tap Transcribe on a saved clip — and then only that clip is sent, over an encrypted connection, to be turned into text. We never sell your data and there are no advertising or third-party tracking SDKs in the app.
Who we are
ConvoTrace ("we", "us") provides the ConvoTrace iOS app. Contact: andriy@marindrew.com.
What stays on your device
- The rolling audio buffer (about the last 90 minutes) and every saved clip are stored locally on your iPhone. We cannot see them.
- Recording happens on-device. We do not stream or back up your audio anywhere by default.
What we process when you transcribe
Transcription is an optional, paid feature. When you choose to transcribe a saved clip:
- That single clip's audio is uploaded over HTTPS to our server (hosted in the EU) and forwarded to our transcription provider, ElevenLabs, which converts it to text and identifies speakers. ElevenLabs acts as a data processor on our behalf.
- The resulting transcript, speaker labels, and the clip's audio are stored on our server so you can read and search them across the app. Audio + transcripts are held in access-controlled storage, separated per user.
- You can delete a clip (and its transcript) at any time from the app, which removes it from our server.
Account & usage data
- To track your monthly transcription allowance, the app registers an anonymous device identifier and issues a token. We do not require your name or email to use the app.
- We record how many seconds of transcription you've used, to enforce your plan's allowance.
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple via the App Store. We receive Apple's signed receipt to confirm your plan; we never see your card or Apple ID password.
What we do not do
- No advertising. No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your audio or transcripts with anyone except the transcription provider needed to deliver the feature you asked for.
Security
Audio and transcripts are transmitted over TLS and stored outside the public web root with per-user access controls. Access to the server is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, but we design to minimise what is collected and exposed.
Your responsibilities
Recording laws vary by location. In many places you must inform or obtain consent from other people before recording a conversation. You are responsible for using ConvoTrace lawfully and for the recordings you make and choose to transcribe.
Data retention & deletion
Transcribed clips you've synced remain on our server until you delete them in the app. To delete all server-side data associated with your device, delete your clips or contact us at andriy@marindrew.com.
Children
ConvoTrace is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country).
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected here with a new date.
